Banco de Chile gave about 12,000 people, all of its teams, access to Copilot Chat after signing an artificial intelligence alliance with Microsoft. In insurance, more than 50% of companies already use AI, according to a survey by the Financial Market Commission (CMF), Chile's financial regulator. AI solution providers are becoming strategic partners for Chile's financial industry.
In this article we review which providers have confirmed agreements in the sector, how AI is being used and what the regulator says. We only include cases we could verify in official sources. This article is for information only and is not investment or purchasing advice.

How Chile's financial industry uses AI
In April 2026 the CMF presented its experience with digital transformation. According to that presentation, more than half of insurance companies use AI, and the main uses are:
- Virtual assistants (chatbots) for customer service.
- Claims processing and settlement.
- Coding assistants for software development.
- Optimization of internal accounting and financial processes.
- Pricing and risk modeling.
Chile's insurance market has 64 companies, according to the same source:

Microsoft: the alliance with Banco de Chile
In October 2025, Banco de Chile became the first private company in the country to sign a strategic AI alliance with Microsoft. The agreement includes:
- Adoption of Microsoft 365 Copilot and generative AI models for predictive analysis, simulations, knowledge search and customer service.
- Process automation to improve efficiency.
- Low Code / No Code tools to develop digital solutions faster. According to Microsoft, 150 employees were recognized for building such solutions that are now used every day.
OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Microsoft: Santander's multi-provider model
The Santander group, which includes Santander Chile, extended AI access to its 185,000 employees worldwide in June 2026, according to Santander. The bank uses a multi-provider approach: OpenAI's ChatGPT, Anthropic's Claude, Google's Gemini and Microsoft 365 Copilot.
Santander reported that AI generated €35 million in business value in the first quarter of 2026, and that it expects to exceed €200 million by year-end. The publication covers the group and doesn't give separate figures for Chile.
Google and Microsoft at the regulator
The CMF itself uses AI tools in its work: Google's NotebookLM, Gemini and Google Antigravity, and Microsoft's Power BI with AI. According to its presentation, it is also evaluating Anthropic's Claude. It uses AI, for example, to check the consistency of financial statements, analyze board minutes and review the policies of the entities it supervises.

The table includes only agreements and uses confirmed in official sources. Other providers and agreements that haven't been made public likely exist.
What the CMF says about AI in Chile's financial industry
According to the April 2026 presentation, the CMF has not issued specific guidelines for the use of AI by the entities it supervises. For now, it relies on:
- Its operational risk and cybersecurity management rules.
- The obligation to report incidents that compromise information security.
- A third-party provider risk rule it is preparing, which could include AI aspects.
The CMF also says that, because it has a market development mandate, it tries not to create regulatory obstacles to innovation, balancing this with its prudential and market conduct objectives. For technology-based financial services, the reference is Chile's Fintec Law, which we explain in our article crypto in numbers.
How to evaluate AI solution providers in the financial sector
- Review provider risk. The CMF is preparing a rule on provider risk. It's worth assessing continuity, security and where data is processed now.
- Protect customer data. Define what information each tool can use and require privacy commitments in the contract.
- Start with internal uses. The CMF and Banco de Chile started with productivity tools for their teams, such as Copilot, Gemini or NotebookLM.
- Measure the value. Santander reports the business value of AI every quarter. Define indicators from the start, as we explain in our 2026 data-driven study.
- Train your teams. Both the CMF and Santander make AI training a central part of their strategy.

What it means for you
- The major global providers are already in Chile's financial industry: Microsoft, OpenAI, Anthropic and Google appear in confirmed agreements and uses.
- The rules are still being written: the CMF has no specific AI guidelines, but it supervises operational risk, cybersecurity and, soon, provider risk.
- As a customer, you'll see more AI in customer service: chatbots and claims settlement are the most common uses in insurance. Always make sure you can talk to a person when you need to.
