Artificial intelligence literacy is coming to Chilean classrooms. On Tuesday, October 27, at 5:00 p.m., Experience AI launches in Chile. The program, created by the Raspberry Pi Foundation and Google DeepMind, is available in more than 180 countries. The launch takes place at Liceo Bicentenario Insuco N° 2, with the backing of the Ministry of Science, according to The Clinic.

How the artificial intelligence literacy program works

In Chile, the program is run by Fundación Kodea and IdeoDigital, and it is aimed at school operators (sostenedores), who then roll it out in their schools. According to the official Experience AI website, it includes:

  1. Free lessons for secondary school classrooms, with ready-to-use activities, slides and lesson plans.
  2. A free three-week online course for anyone who educates young people, including parents and volunteers.
  3. Teacher workshops, ranging from how algorithms and neural networks work to the biases and ethical impact of AI.

"With this program we want to show them the way, give their teachers free resources and support," Marian López, director of education at Fundación Kodea, told The Clinic.

Chile leads, but adoption is low

Chile scored 71.4 out of 100 in the Latin American Artificial Intelligence Index (ILIA) 2026 and led the region for the fourth year in a row, according to CENIA, which produces the index with ECLAC. But the same report estimates that only 13.5% of Chilean companies use AI, and the gap is wider among SMEs:

Lack of knowledge is the main barrier: in Europe, 70.89% of companies that considered using AI but did not cited that reason, according to Eurostat. That is why artificial intelligence literacy from school onward targets the root of the problem.

A labor market that is already changing

The program arrives at a delicate moment for tech employment. In the June-August 2026 quarter, employment in information and communications fell 16.8% over twelve months, the largest drop among the sectors highlighted by the INE. The INE does not attribute that drop to AI, but it shows that the digital skills the market demands are changing fast.

What it means for you

  1. If you are a teacher or school operator: the lessons and course are free, so you can review them before deciding whether to use them in your school.
  2. If you are a parent or guardian: the online course is also open to those who support young people, and it is a way to understand what your children learn about AI.
  3. If you run a company: artificial intelligence literacy is not only for students; with just 13.5% of Chilean companies using AI, training your team can be an advantage.
