A technical detail: the observed dollar published by the SII is calculated from banks' transactions on the previous business day. That is why it may differ from the price shown by exchange houses or market screens during the day.

Why it matters: inflation and the UF

A higher dollar price in Chile makes imported goods, fuel and travel more expensive. In September, the CPI rose 0.4% in the month and 4.1% over twelve months, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE). The increase was led by food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.6%) and transportation (0.9%).

The UF, an inflation-indexed unit, is worth CLP 41,226.39 today, according to the SII. October's CPI, which will show part of the dollar's effect, will be released in early November.

What it means for you

  1. If you are traveling or buying abroad: the dollar price in Chile is at its highest point of 2026, so your card will charge more pesos for each dollar purchase than a few months ago.
  2. If you import or sell imported products: with a 16.4% rise since February, it is worth reviewing prices and costs in pesos, because your margin may have shrunk.
  3. If you have debts or rent in UF: the UF does not track the dollar but inflation; still, an expensive dollar can push up CPI in the coming months and, with it, the UF.
