Travelling to Europe or the United States: what the same budget costs
Last summer (average from December 2025 to February 2026), one dollar cost CLP 887.33 and one euro CLP 1,043.18. Today they cost CLP 994.29 and CLP 1,106.94.
| Budget | Last summer | Today | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| US$1,000 (United States) | CLP 887,327 | CLP 994,290 | +CLP 106,963 |
| €1,000 (euro area) | CLP 1,043,177 | CLP 1,106,943 | +CLP 63,766 |
| £1,000 (United Kingdom) | CLP 1,197,408 | CLP 1,321,171 | +CLP 123,762 |
In other words, the same budget of one thousand units rose CLP 43,197 more in dollars than in euros. The United Kingdom is the European destination that became most expensive: the pound rose 10.3%, almost as much as the dollar.
Why the euro rose less than the dollar
The Chilean peso weakened against the dollar in 2026. But so did the euro: last summer one euro was worth US$1.18 on average, and on October 28 it is worth US$1.11, according to the ECB. That 5.3% drop of the euro against the dollar partly offsets the peso's fall.

The euro is still more expensive than the dollar, so the exchange rate alone is not enough to decide. When travelling to Europe or the United States, airfares, lodging and each city's cost of living also matter. How we calculated these figures
- Dollar: SII observed dollar. Today's value (CLP 994.29) was published on October 27, 2026.
- Euro and pound: calculated through the dollar with ECB reference rates as of October 28, 2026.
- Last summer: average of business days between December 1, 2025 and February 28, 2026.
- These are reference values. Exchange houses and cards apply their own rate and charges. You can calculate other amounts with the currency converter.
Exchange rates can change from day to day. At InfoByData we will keep evaluating and analyzing them throughout the summer season, and we will update these figures when there are relevant changes.

What it means for you
- If you are choosing between travelling to Europe or the United States: by exchange rate, the United States became the most expensive; a US$1,000 budget costs CLP 106,963 more than last summer.
- If you are going to the euro area: the rise was 6.1%, half that of the dollar, but the euro is still the pricier of the two currencies.
- If you are going to the United Kingdom: the pound rose 10.3%; do not assume all of Europe behaves like the euro.
