Visibility in AI search engines has become a new gap for companies outside the capital. In 10 of 22 Chilean industries, no company appears in at least half of the recommendations made by artificial intelligence assistants, according to a measurement by Chilean startup Bison Agents published today by Diario Financiero. The study analyzed 264 consumer questions on ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, and evaluated 312 brands.

Visibility in AI search engines, by zone of the country

Companies in central Chile appear far more often than those in the south and the far south. Average presence in assistant answers was 71% in the center and 37% in the far south:

The study also shows what happens when the question does not mention a place. In those queries, tourism in Arica fell from 13% to 1% presence, Aysén from 13% to 2% and Chiloé from 14% to 4%. In contrast, in Antofagasta mining, visibility rose from 26% to 50%, but in favor of large international suppliers.

According to Bison Agents co-founder Felipe Díaz, ranking first on Google no longer guarantees being an AI assistant's top recommendation. SEO is still important, but on its own it is no longer enough to secure visibility in AI search engines. This is a study by a private company that sells AI positioning services, so its figures are a reference, not a census.

Google is still the main gateway

Although conversational search is growing, Google accounted for 90.23% of searches in Chile in September 2026, according to StatCounter. And Google also answers with AI: its AI Overviews and AI Mode rely on the pages Google has already indexed.

In October, Google updated its documentation for websites. On October 21 it expanded the page on controlling what you share in Search, with options such as the robots meta tag, data-nosnippet and the Search generative AI control. According to its status dashboard, the latest core update was in May 2026, and the September spam update finished in early October.

What it means for you

  1. Measure your visibility in AI search engines: ask ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini the questions your customers would ask, with and without your city's name, and note whether you appear.
  2. Strengthen your local signals: a consistent address, district, region and reviews on your website, Google Business Profile and directories help assistants associate your brand with a place.
  3. Do not abandon classic SEO: with more than 90% of searches in Chile on Google, traditional rankings remain the foundation that AI answers rely on.
